The four-piece ensemble False Consonance was founded in Bremen in 2020, when the four musicians lived under one roof. The two basic ideas of the young ensemble developed from the special circumstances of this time. False Consonance deliberately dispenses with a keyboard instrument, which allows the ensemble to play in any kind of space and unfold a broader spectrum of dynamics, colours and shades of early music. In addition to the original repertoire for flute, violin, viola da gamba/cello and lute, the ensemble also focuses on reducing large works for minimal chamber music instrumentation, creating a kind of ‘pocket music’. False Consonance proved the success of this concept with its debut CD ‘Il Sassone - a domestic opera’ (October 2023).

False Consonance was funded by the German Music Council (2022/23) and also received ensemble funding from the Bremen Senator for Culture (2024-26). In 2024, the ensemble won the competition for the title ‘Rheinsberger Hofkapelle’, combined with an artistic residency at the Rheinsberg Music Academy.
